Annie Sloan Paint
we are proud to be a stockist of this widely recognised brand of decorative paint, as the brand works solely with independents and is made in the uk. Chalk paint is accessible and easy to use to transform your home, whether you water down to create a smooth surface, thicken up to create texture, make a wash or use it to dye fabric. The possibilities are endless with multiple surfaces working well with chalk paint (from antique to mid-century, even ikea, stone, ceramics, wood, metal can all be painted), the flexibility with the surface allows you to be creative and the paint can even be mixed.
All you need to know is covered in our workshop (monthly dates available) and we are available for 1:1 or for small groups (contact us to book)
Sometimes having someone with you and demonstrating helps and also the workshop gives you the opportunity to get hands on experience.
summed up you need to clean and dry your surface. apply the chalk paint directly from the tin...working quickly with the product across the surface, this way and that with your brush. Allow to dry, sand with a fine sand paper if you see texture you don't want or drips. Apply a second watered down paint coat, with longer flatter strokes. repeat sanding if you want to distress or smooth out the surface.
Apply wax to the dry chalky surface as if applying hand-cream to moisture your surface. Use circular motions and leave to absorb for 12 hours. Apply further coats to ensure even coverage and to create a more water-repellent surface. Warm the wax, don't apply cold or too heavy. Finish the whole process with a clean, dry cloth and bluff.

Working with black wax is one of our favourite finishes to create a statement, from rustic to shiny smooth. Prepare for messy hands with this finish. Working with old wood allows the black wax to soak into the surface, building up layers and buffing can result in a finish that reflects an ebonised look, smooth and shiny black. For a more rustic feel work black wax into reclaim or old wood leaving the character of the wood to dictate the coverage.
