May | Chalk paint

Lots of paint projects keeping us busy this month. . . . some commissions and furniture for the shop, with the weather yo yo-ing with all the seasons in one month we have enjoyed some super hot days in our courtyard painting catching the sun on our feet to painting in tight quarters in our stock room with the rain coming down outside. Commissions have been gilded a stag head, gilded artwork surface, beach distressed mirror. we have painted for the shop a sideboard, pot cupboard and chest of drawers to name a few. We discovered our sideboard project had some green felt lining in the drawers so we painted it graphite and after waxing you would of never known it was fabric in there. Love a divided drawer, perfect storage solutions for many things. The sideboard didn't last long in the shop, finding a new home quickly. We loved its simple clean lines and shape you may see more of this style of furniture in the shop.

Our love of Annie Sloan products continues as the possibly and creativity is endless. Our Black wax love continues. . . we have black waxed a fair few handles now and love the contrast against a painted surface. It is a new combination love! and have you ever tried doing a wash of colour with Annie Sloan chalk paint. it works great, being water based it can be diluted down using water to create a wash. We have two benches hand- made for the shop crafted out of some reclaimed pine. Watering down french linen to do a wash over our them gives them a lovely soft grey colour keeping the texture and grain of wooden visible.

We are getting prepared for our decorative effects workshop which is fast approaching. Learning techniques to make something new look old, creating texture, using craqueleur, colour layering, and sgraffito. We couldn't be more excited about this one. We have painted two trugs so far getting carried away with all the techniques. we are loving old white, duck egg and Amsterdam green as a three colour smooth distressed finish, love craquleur over graphite with white wax and creating texture is so much fun. Throw the rule book out the window on how to paint and just get creative, anything goes. its exciting!
